Battleship Records was founded in 2000 by Marc "Mystro" Petricciani after the breakup of the group Revelations (Prologic, Buzz Lyteyear, and Mystro). During his time with Revelations, Mystro discovered some of the darker sides of the music industry and decided that the only way to make the music he loved and still retain the rights to the songs, was to go independent. Taking the name "Battleship Records", an homage to his musical roots, Mystro launched his new venture in early 2002.

The goal of the label was simple: to put out the kind of music that the artists wanted to play and to provide a comfortable working environment for the artists. Since the label consisted of mostly friends and family, this goal was realistic, and in 2003 Battleship released its first project "Battleship Records Presents".

This record featured Prologic, Concept Trinity, Ande Kapp & Parmajohn (now known as The Groove's Brothers), and Tag King Fresh. The EP caught the attention of other artists in the Portland area, especially SANTOTZIN, who joined the label in 2005. The Battleship roster now consist of Santotzin, Ozone, Prologic, The Groove's Brothers, Concept Trinity, Tag King Fresh, and Are They Serious?. Battleship has also worked with such artists as Manic D, Villagelliot, Roosevelt, Trash Heap, and Sleep (of Oldominion).
